GRAMENE GENEGR:0200905
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Semi-dominant that increases tillering and decreases number of lateral tassel
branches; originally identified by J. Beckett, may be allele of Cg1. Tp3 is a
semi-dominant mutation that, in most genetic backgrounds, increases tillering
and decreases the number of lateral tassel branches. In backgrounds that permit
more extreme expression, plants heterozygous for this mutation are highly
tillered, have narrow, waxy leaves and have vegetatively transformed ears and
tassels. Tp3 maps close to Cg1 and may be an allele of this locus. Tp3 was
originally identified by J.Beckett (S. Poethig). Genetic 2005 3 coordinates
determined from these recombination and map data: tp3 -25- wrk1 -5- lg3; see
MaizeGDB ID:935349. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and
the map position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
