ID 824
Name rf1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) restorer of fertility1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200452
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Rf1 restores fertility to cms-T; complementary to Rf2. Dominant Rf1
restores pollen fertility to cms-T when in combination with Rf2 (Duvick 1956
Genetics 41:544). Located between d1 and ts4 (d1-27-Rf1-11-ts4) (Duvick et al.
1961 Genetics 46:1245). Plants of Rf1 Rf2 genotype with cms-T plus proper
background modifier genotype are fully fertile; rf1 Rf2 and rf1 rf2 plants are
completely male sterile. Rf1 rf2 plants are usually sterile but may be partially
male fertile under some environmental conditions. (D. Duvick). Genetic 2005 3
coordinates determined from these recombination and map data: "rf1 -3- lg3 -1-
rg1; rf1 -1- umc97 -4- umc102; umc50a-21-rf1-6-umc97-1-umc102-5-bnl6.06a; umc50a-10-rf1-1-(umc102,umc97)-1-
bnl6.06a; see MaizeGDB ID:935262; 105992; 105991; 105990.". This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
