Description | Dominant Lg3 plants lack ligule; leaves upright, broad, often concave and pleated; homeobox similar to knox5 and knox11. Dominant Lg3, normal ligule is fragmented or displaced into the leaf with phenotypic effect generally restricted to the midrib region. Leaves upright, broad, concave, often pleated, and somewhat spread open rather than surrounding the stalk as with lg1 and lg2. Midrib region of the leaf blade is displaced by extensions with characteristics similar to those of the leaf sheath. Homozygotes are more extreme in expression. (J. Fowler) Homeodomain sequence similar to kn1 (Kerstetter 1994). Probed site uncovered in TB-3Sb hypoploids and monotelo4L (i.e., hypo3S) plants. Encodes homeodomain protein (Smith & Hake 1992). Merged with probed sites pge(D1), pge(R4) based on Kerstetter et al 1994. Genetic 2005 3 coordinates determined from these recombination and map data: rz543a -0.1- lg3 -1- asg46a; lg3 -3- (rg1, rp3); lg3 -5.3- ys3; umc92a -6- npi219 -2- (umc10a, php20509, php20576, lg3) -2- npi114b -2- (rp3, rg1) -1- umc102;d1 -3- ra2 -17- lg3 -2- rg1 -2- ys3; lg3 TB-3Sb monotelo3L; see MaizeGDB ID:934702; 112764; 139005; 112768; 935272; 66141. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible. |
