ID 519
Name ht1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) Helminthosporium turcicum resistance1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200259
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Ht1 plants resistant to Exserohilum turcicum. Resistance to
Exserohilum turcicum (=Setosphaeria turcica, Helminthosporium turcicum);
dominant Ht1. Chlorotic lesions with suppressed fungal growth and sporulation
develop on seedling and older plant leaves 12 to 18 days after infection with
appropriate (avirulent) biotypes of the leaf blight pathogen; large necrotic
lesions with abundant fungal growth and sporulation form on leaves of plants
having the recessive allele. Compounds inhibitory to fungal growth form in
leaves of infected resistant plants (Lim et al. 1970 Phytopathol 60:1071).
Numerous maize genotypes have Ht1 resistance alleles (Hooker 1961 Plt Dis Rep
45:780, 1963 Crop Sci 3:381, Hooker & Tsung 1980 Plt Dis Reptr 64:387). (A
Hooker). Genetic 2005 2 coordinates determined from these recombination and map

gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was
displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
