GRAMENE GENEGR:0200453
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description See rf1; cDNA prf2a complements E. coli mutant deficient in aldehyde
dehydrogenase; mitochondrial. Dominant restores pollen fertility to cms-T in
combination with Rf1 (Duvick 1956 Genetics 41:544). Located near centromere and
about 5 crossover units from wx1, probably in the order: wx1-centromere-rf2.
Plants of Rf1 Rf2 genotype plus proper background modifier genotype are fully
fertile; rf1 Rf2 and rf1 rf2 plants are completely male sterile. Rf1 rf2 plants
are usually sterile but may be partially male fertile under some environmental
conditions. (D. Duvick). This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database
and the map position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
