GRAMENE GENEGR:0200183
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Glossy leaf surface expressed after 3rd leaf (aka gl4). Phenotypically like gl1
but cuticle wax present in star-type particles. Expressed late, involves
precocious change from juvenile to adult condition. Genomic sequence shows that
it is a member of the APETALA2 family of regulatory genes. The nuclear
localization signal and AP2-R1 and AP2-R2 domains are approximately 80%
identical and 90% similar at the amino acid level between the Arabidopsis
APETALA2 gene and maize gl15. (Moose & Sisco 1996). This gene was originally
curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize
bins map if feasible.
