GRAMENE GENEGR:0200523
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Tp1 plants have many tillers, narrow leaves, many small partially
podded ears, tassel simple. Tp1 is a semi-dominant mutation with pleiotropic
effects on both vegetative and reproductive structures. Mature plants are
usually highly tillered, with narrow leaves, and produce epicuticular wax and
prop roots at higher nodes than normal. Mutant plants have 2 or more small ears
and an unbranched tassel. In both the ear and the tassel, spikelets are usually
subtended by leaves and various parts of the spikelet may be vegetatively
transformed. As a consequence of this vegetative transformation, Tp1 plants are
often male sterile, and less often female sterile. Mutant plants can usually be
identified after the emeregence of leaves 7 and 8 on the basis of leaf width and
the presence of epicuticular wax. (S. Poethig). Genetic 2005 7 coordinates
